Welsh Fairy Tales

I. WELSH RABBIT AND HUNTED HARES
Not so much a story or fairytale as a pair of historical pieces of folklore of the origian of cheese among other things. It is interesting to note that it would seem the story teller brags about the abondance of food in the area of the story, and talks of how much the English loved the Welsh Cheese.

II. THE MIGHTY MONSTER AFANG
The story of one of the most brutal and near invinciable creatures in Welsh folklore, and how a maiden and her love deceived the creature to its ultamate death.

III. THE TWO CAT WITCHES
Folk Stories of the 7th Son of the 7th Son who is able to work magic so that he evades robbers and defeats a pair of witches that change into cats.

IV. HOW THE CYMRY LAND BECAME INHABITED
The folklore and folktales of how people traveled across the sea to Wales, how they came to unify to become one people, and how they learned to tame the wild wilderness with bows, plows and more.

V. THE BOY THAT WAS NAMED TROUBLE
A fairytale about farmer fights off a creature that is attacking his horses and saves a baby from it, over time as he raises the child he comes to realize that the child is the prince.

VI. THE GOLDEN HARP
A folk tale of a man named Taffy Morgan, a horrable singer who won't stop singing, or playing badly. Then in an act of kindness too 3 fairies he gets a magical Harp.

VII. THE GREAT RED DRAGON OF WALES
One of the folk stories of Merlin as a boy who helped to drive the Saxons from Wales.

VIII. THE TOUCH OF CLAY
This is a fairy tale of a farmer who comes to love a nymph, soon he convinces the nymphs father too allow the two of them to wed. However the farmer must always remmember never to allow earth or clay to strike the nymph or she shall be forced to return to the land of fairy.

IX. THE TOUCH OF IRON
A young man watching fairies dances, captures one and forces her to be his servent by guessing her name and surrounding her with Iron.

X. THE MAIDEN OF THE GREEN FOREST
An evil prince puts away his wife for a new younger magical girl of the woods, yet every Friday this new girl disapears into the woods. The prince asks a magician to help him discover where she goes. A fairy tale in which the secrecy of women is made important.

XI. THE TREASURE STONE OF THE FAIRIES
A fairytale about a boy who plays with the fairy children, against the wishes of his mother who worries about him as he disapears for months at a time. Then a disaster strikes the family and the boy must approach his fairy friends for help.

XII. GIANT TOM AND GIANT BLUBB
This folk tale is of an evil giant that steals the wealth of the land and blocks off the Kings Highway so none may travel on it, and the Giant boy who defeats him in combat to free restore piece to the land.

XIII. A BOY THAT VISITED FAIRYLAND
A lazy boy avoiding work makes his way to fairy land where he becomes friends with the king of the fairies child, and over time earns the trust of the fairies. This folktale is one of  many that give insite into the feelings and relations of fairies to men.

XIV. THE WELSHERY AND THE NORMANS
This folktale tells of the long battle between the Normans and the Welsh, and of how over time the fairies went to intervene by sending a diplomate to Henry the VIII.

XV. THE WELSH FAIRIES HOLD A MEETING
Folklore of a fairy party for all the good magical creatures, one which describes an array of creatures good and bad from Welsh folklore and belief.

XVI. KING ARTHUR'S CAVE
A folktale of a man by the name of Taffy meets a wizard who sees that Taffy can lead him to a great treasure in the chamber where king Arthur sleeps with his knights.

XVII. THE LADY OF THE LAKE
A fairy tale of a lake fairy and the man who woes her with bread, and the three children they have together who begin the folk knowledge of medician in Wales.

XVIII. THE KING'S FOOT HOLDER
A king has a servent maid who comforts him, yet the kings nephew falls in love with the girl and makes plans to find a way to marry her. An interesting folktale giving some small insight into palace life.

XIX. POWELL, PRINCE OF DYFED
A fairy tale of the friendship between the King of Wales and the King of the Fairies, in this story they switch places earch ruling the others land so that the King of Wales may slay a mortal enemy of the fairy king.

XX. POWELL AND HIS BRIDE
The coninuation of the fairy tale of Powell, Prince of Dyfed, after spending a year with the fairies the mortal realm seems dull so he sets out to do something no mortal man has done before.

XXI. WHY THE BACK DOOR WAS FRONT
A welsh fairy tale of an old women accussed of kidnapping children for evil fairies is accused of cursing a rich farmers cattle, and the farmer must find the truth of this to save his livelihood.

XXII. THE RED BANDITS OF MONTGOMERY
A folktale of a poor women who is robbed and left desolate. She is offered help in the form of gold from an old fairy, but in return must give up her child unless she can guess the old fairy womens name.

XXIII. THE FAIRY CONGRESS
The folklore which surrounds fairies, as this story describes many of the fairies and their relationships with each other.

XXIV. THE SWORD OF AVALON
