The Monkey and His Master

Once a rich gentlemen happened to come into possession of a very tame monkey. The same was good natured, however, he was quite lazy and not very clever. His master knew this and understood both his good and his bad characteristics. So if the monkey was not very obedient the lord would often resort to trickery. If he wanted the monkey to work diligently and willingly he would promise to reward it with three or four peaches. For the monkey loved peaches and was delighted by the prospect of obtaining such a treat and so worked hard when they were offered.
After some time based the monkey grew tired of working however. Realizing what was happening the lord offered to increase the Monkey’s wages, telling the animal that he would get four peaches in the morning and three in the evening for the work he did. The monkey was very pleased and began working hard for his master once more.
