The
spirit of the threshing house, he helped protect the threshing house
and told peoples fortunes on the new year by touching them with either
a warm or a cold hand (warm for a good year to come and cold for a
bad). The Ovinnik can also be dangerous however, burning down the grain
houses. In order to prevent this he was offered sacrifices of roosters.
